Just sharing my thought of the week.
If you love something.set it free. If it comes back, it will always be yours. If it never returns, it was never yours to begin with. If it just sits in your living room eating your food, messing up your stuff and is never off the phone. Then you either married it or gave birth to it. Amen.

Double
I think my Guardian Angel has been looking after me today (mine is very overworked) as we have been so busy, that my Boss has not really had a chance to look at his prize plants? This means they have another 3 days to get there act together and do something? We have a very busy weekend ahead of us with the Band, and it also seems that we have been advertised in a newspaper to be playing somewhere we have not even been booked for? If my phone rings tomorrow and someone asks where we are, it could be quite interesting, but I do like a challenge?

RIP
Well my Boss is back from holidays, and despite me buying all the wonder grow liquids and powders under the sun, his Begonias are still as dead as a dodo (see Zeppelins) I am so in the mire when he goes down the Garden tomorrow, so if I do not post again, then you will know why. Does anyone have a the Air Fare to Outer Mongolia!!!

The beat.
I was worked hard in the first half of a Concert last night. 4 solo's, but one was a favourite called 'The Nearness of You' with a nice bone Soli in the middle, played ably by the other Trombone players. A big crowd as well ,who had obviously come to hear the Drummer play 'Skin Deep' with a cracking solo that would have made Belson proud. Full day at work today with 4 call outs, it's a good job I do some exercise as your heart rate can go from a nice sedate 60bpm up to 160 bpm in a couple of seconds. I was once called out from the Gym to do a removal and I was still wearing my heart monitor. I train at about 140 bpm, but while I did the stretcher carrying downstairs it went up to 185???? Mind you it goes up that far sometimes on some of the solo's if it is sight reading, or if I have to buy a round.

Alcatraz
Did someone say that when the clocks go forward it is British Summertime? What a miserable day. I had that Monday morning feeling and it's a Tuesday? We had to quickly clean the Limo's in between showers today. I drew the short straw and had to look after the office. As the cortege pulled out I saw that the shammy's and cleaning kit had been left on one of the limo's roofs. I had to chase down the road after them to get them to stop? Most undignified me thinks! A bald headed undertaker running after a Hearse and 2 cars, flapping his arms in the air? If anyone rings up to complain we will have to tell them that it was a last request of the deceased!!!!!!

I'm Free
A trip into the wilds of Lincolnshire last night, and to a venue that we have played at for about the last 10 years. A great night as always, and quite a few 'deps' in the Band helping us out. We had a young lady helping out on Tenor Sax and I have never seen the Band more willing to help her ,find a uniform that would fit her? Also had a great trumpet player from the Chesterfield area joining us, who did a sterling job, along with the Alto and Bass Trombone players who were also guesting. Got to bed about 2am and made sure that my watch was well wound up!!!

H G Wells
I purchased a watch quite a while ago that does not have to be wound up, or indeed have batteries. It works on movement and kinetic energy, so every time you move your wrist it winds itself. Never really worn it in bed as it is a posh looking watch (cheap but posh), but last night I went to bed with it on. Woke, and looked at watch to see it was 6am, so just lay there listening to the radio. Then the news came on. The 10 o clock news....... I must have been in a coma and not moved for a couple of hours (unusual for me) and the watch had stopped. It was a mad rush then to make an appointment. Can't beat these relaxed weekends.

Zeppelins
I am no gardener. I must have rebelled ,after my Dad used to drag me out to do the lawn when I was a kid. I keep mine tidy, but that's it, none of this Faffing down Garden centres cooing over the plants saying 'oooh that's nice' every 5 seconds. So imagine my surprise when my boss took me to one side last week to tell me he was off to Spain for 10 day's,and asking me if I would water his prize begonias ,that had just been planted in the Greenhouse. "No problem" I replied, and he left, safe in the knowledge that his precious plants were in the best hands possible!!! Fast forward to 8 days later, and my work colleague casually asked me if I had remembered to do the very important watering............ooops. Forgot completely, and as I approached the Greenhouse, very tentatively, all I could see was a dried up mess in every potting tray. Believe me I am so in trouble, unless I can high tail it to a Garden Centre (oooh that's nice) and buy some surrogate plants? Of course I may be luck and Charlie Dimmock might call in to give me some advice, however if she did I would have more to talk about than the Begonias nudge nudge wink.

Touch your Toes
Sat doing flexibilities on the old bone whilst watching footie last night. I don't even like football, but love it when it gets to penalties. There were some bleary eyes at work today after copious amounts of wobbly juice was consumed watching the match. It was the best I was to feel all day as I only had a glass of coke!! Looking back over this year, I know I have changed some what since the bereavement, and it is a very strange feeling. Although we deal with this every day, no one can really experience what another person is feeling inside. I don't even know if I will ever change back to how I was before? but I suppose only time will tell. Strangely I am not even bothered about taking my bone with me on Holiday this year, and I always smuggle it into the car, much to my partners disgust. However if I don't, I know I will have no lip to come back to, and I have a Concert a couple of days after I get home! Ah the problems of being a Brass player ;-)

Mutt
Actually slept 8 hours last night, which is very unusual for me as i usually make do with 4 or 5. Good job I did though as today has been manic at work. We had to go onto a farm to collect some items, and they had 2 of the most vicious Guard Dogs I have ever seen. My mate told me to go out and open the Farm gate, which I did at a run, and dived back into our wagon. Dangerous job this sometimes? The house dog was a bit friendlier, and greeted you with a wag, but this was his little ploy, because as soon as you went to stroke him ,he went for you! Hope tomorrow a bit quieter.

Orf
Still well under par with the old tum. In fact things took a step back this weekend so feel really off it. Still fronted last night, but I have to say it was a struggle. Hope it sorts itself out soon as it has been a while now, and I want to get back my usual hearty appetite, so I can get back to my usual size of 'chubby'

Mr Sheen
I am not much of a collector, unless you count the dust under my bed? But I have been buying Trombone figurines over the years. Be it Grenadier guards cartoon characters or even bears, if I see one I buy it. There are not many model Trombone players, but strangely all the ones I have got are bald and wear glasses? Is this stereotyping bone players? as I am sure I don't look like that!!!!

Bee
Late for work this morning, which for an ex Army chap, is terrible. Everyone had decided to bypass another road that had temporary traffic lights and come onto ours? It didn't matter how many diamonds I had on my gearstick, I could go only as fast as the car in front ,which was at stop for a good ten minutes. Luckily I have my trusty mouthpiece in the car, so I did some buzzing on that. Which made me wonder if it was like using a Mobile Phone and if caught what a policeman would make of it. I was just playing ' Too little time Officer' join in if you know the words!!!! I think his next words would be 'Your nicked pal'

Shift
I have always wanted a flashing knob and at last I have got one! Let me explain. Just purchased a new car, and every car I have had before, the gear stick knob was not removable. Well it was a case of 'Boy's with Toys' with this one, and I went straight down to a gadget shop and bought a replacement light up, all singing and dancing, silver gear knob. I removed the cars standard one, and replaced it with the gizmo. It looked great, but was only held on with 3 tiny grub screws. So you can imagine my surprise as I was hitting an A road and building up speed, that the knob came off in my hand!!!! It was a scary moment for any male, and I had to find somewhere to pull over quick, as changing gear with just the gear stick was quite painful. Unfortunately I had to put the old one back on. However I am sending for a new one, that is encrusted in diamonds!!!!(not real) so I can have a regal looking knob. Ah the joys of being a bloke!

Midnight Express
After my blog yesterday I was hoping that the spirit of Don Lusher would take over my body for last nights Concert. More like George Chisolm had taken root. Actually only one solo last night which was 'Night Train' Took a booking for the Band yesterday, for people who had booked us 3 years ago. Apparently people had not stopped talking about the OBB, so they wanted us back again.

Ripsky Corset Off
My lip is still like a piece of old leather, which makes it even worse to see a boy of 12 has won the Young Musician of the Year on Trombone. 12!!!!!! how the heck do you get to that standard at that age. It's flippin reincarnation I am convinced? I mean how do you explain a Russian violinist of 5 who can play all the classics by heart?? Spooky!

Dennis
Nice night at the Oak last night, and good to feel a little more human again. Still trying to get a semblance of a lip back. We tried a new modern arrangement last night (to be used at Weddings etc) which included the tunes 'Great ball's of Fire' and Lets Twist again' Cool or what? Poor Andy the Drum had to borrow a kit for last nights Concert, as his Drum kit was stuck in between floors in a lift, after a gig he played the night before!!! He had to be rescued by some burly firemen, and dragged unceremoniously up to the next floor, but they could not get his kit out? I think he secretly enjoyed it?

Northerly
Managed to blow for an hour last night trying to build my lip back up. However a return of Montazuma's revenge today, so I am not out of the woods yet me thinks. Perhaps I will blow a little softer just in case!!!

ONIONS
A bit of a rough ride this time around. Have not blown for a week (daren't) as just not had the energy. Staggered back to Tuesday night Band last night to be faced with one of the highest solo's in the pad (The wrestlers song) 'Embraceable You', not only that ,it was in the 2nd half. With a lip like a piece of limp liver I struggled through it, and managed to hit the top 'D' at the end. I am not one of theses players who can put their instruments away for a week, and then blow as if they have never been away. Which made it twice as hard being ill, as I knew I had to get back to blowing? Next step is to drag my Gym kit out and try and get back some semblance of fitness, although as for weight loss, that has been taken care for me.
