At a Funeral today we had a piper playing. He did a tune called 'Mist Covered Mountain' a beautiful and haunting melody. I know this piece well because I played it many times with the pipes and Massed Bands in Tattoos around Europe. The Regimental Band I was in ,also played it once, and once only ,whilst we were stationed in Germany. The only reason that we played it the one time, was not because we played it badly, nor indeed ,because we did not have Bagpipes in the Band. The reason was, that as our Bandmaster announced ' We will now play Mist Covered Mountain' to the German audience, they all started laughing???
Turns out that the Translation of 'Mist' in German means 'Manure!!!!!!!!
