Rest man

The following joke will only make sense to those with musical knowledge. It could been about any instrumentalist, but suits more a Trumpet player, of which it was originally constructed for. I promise to take the mickey out of us bone players at some point.


In an emergency a Big Band trumpeter was hired to do some solos with a symphony orchestra. Everything went fine through the first movement, when he had some really hair-raising solos, but in the second movement he started improvising madly when he wasn't supposed to play at all. After the concert the conductor came round looking for an explanation. The Trumpet player said, "I looked at the score and it said `Tacit'--so I took it!"
